Household accounts, a new dashboard, and account linking
Most financial tools treat you like an island. Your spouse's 401(k), your shared savings, the mortgage you both pay — they live in separate logins, separate spreadsheets, separate conversations. Today we're changing that.
We're shipping three things together: household accounts, a rebuilt dashboard, and account linking — all working toward the same goal: one place where your real financial picture lives, updated automatically, and shared with the people you plan with.
Household accounts
Alistair now supports household-level financial planning. Invite your spouse or partner by email and, once they accept, you share one combined financial picture instead of two partial ones.
What gets shared:
- A joint net worth view. Your assets and liabilities, combined — the number that actually matters when you're planning together.
- Shared goals. Set a goal once — like "College fund for Emma" — and both of you see progress toward it.
- Household budgeting. Multiple income streams, one household budget.
- Tax-aware filing. Alistair can reason across filing status (married filing jointly vs. separately) to surface optimization opportunities.
How it works. From Settings, invite your partner with their email. They'll need an Alistair account, and they accept in a tap. Once joined, the accounts, holdings, transactions, goals, to-dos, and documents you've each added merge into a single household view. Either of you can leave at any time, and removing a member is one click.
The moment someone joins, we stop answering each of you from half a picture. Questions like "are we on track to retire?" or "can we afford this house?" now get answered from the combined reality — the same way a real advisor would.
A new dashboard
The dashboard has been rebuilt around one question: "How are we doing, right now?"
The headline numbers. Net worth, total cash, total debts, and total assets — updated automatically when you've linked accounts, so you're never looking at stale figures.
Net worth over time. Watch the trend, not just the snapshot. The line tells you more than any single number.
Asset allocation. Where your investments actually sit — so "am I too concentrated?" isn't a guess anymore.
Projected income. A forward view of your income, grounded in what you've shared and what's actually flowing through your accounts.
Assets & liabilities. Every account, every balance, in one clean breakdown.
Recent transactions and spending. See what moved through your accounts recently, and where your money went (Pro).
Portfolio news. The relevant headlines for what you actually own — not the noise.
If you haven't linked accounts yet, the dashboard points you straight to it, because the dashboard is only as good as the data behind it.
Account linking (and what it unlocks)
Account linking is the engine underneath all of this. Connect your bank and brokerage accounts once, and Alistair keeps balances, holdings, and transactions current on its own — no manual entry, no stale statements.
It's strictly read-only. Alistair can see balances and holdings; it cannot move money, pay bills, or make trades. We never see your login credentials, your data is encrypted, and you can disconnect any account at any time.
When you combine account linking with household sharing, the effect compounds: two people's real, current financial lives, merged into one dashboard and one advisor who knows the whole picture.
Why this matters
Money is rarely a solo project. It's a partnership — with a spouse, a family, a future self. But the tools we've used to manage it have been built for individuals, and they've made "planning together" feel like a data-entry exercise.
Our bet is simpler than that: give you one accurate, automatic, shared view of your finances, and the planning gets dramatically easier. The dashboard tells you where you are. Household accounts tell you where you both are. Account linking keeps it true without anyone lifting a finger.
What's next
This is the foundation. Next up: deeper spending insights, smarter proactive nudges (the kind that flag a cash balance earning nothing or a subscription you forgot), and continued work making Alistair feel less like a tool you feed and more like an advisor who already knows your situation.
